Grade 1

Welcome to first grade at Maple Street. We create a warm, safe, and nurturing environment in order to develop children’s confidence, foster their independence, instill a love for school, and encourage them to learn about the world around them.

Academically, first grade at Maple Street School is about continuing to expand upon skills your child has begun to develop in preschool and kindergarten.

Emphasis is placed on beginning literacy and numeracy skills. We explore these topics via thematic science and social studies units such as: the exploration of the pond habitat, investigation of the human body systems, cultural study of China, and the virtual exploration of Antarctica.
