Physical Education
Physical Education at Maple Street is a dynamic program that develops confidence, self-esteem, personal fitness, and a lifelong desire to be physically active. Throughout the curriculum, students are encouraged to reflect on both their physical skill-building and their social-emotional behavior, recognizing the impact each individual has on a team.
Lower School (Grades K-3):
In our Lower School curriculum, the emphasis is on cooperation, movement education, and body and spatial awareness. Students engage in activities that promote coordination, balance, and teamwork in a fun and supportive environment.
Intermediate School (Grades 4-5):
In the Intermediate School, physical education builds on the foundation laid in earlier years, with a focus on skill development and the introduction of more structured physical activities. Fifth graders, in particular, begin to explore personal fitness and participate in activities that prepare them for local competitive games. The program continues to emphasize cooperation and positive social interaction.
Upper School (Grades 6-8):
Upper School physical education emphasizes the long-term development of personal fitness, while exposure to a wide variety of physical games and group challenges encourages students to work positively and productively as team members. The program supports students in setting personal fitness goals and understanding the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle.
