Thank You, Veterans

Maple Street celebrated Veterans Day by thanking veterans and reflecting on the idea of service.
Friday’s ceremony included a flag-raising, the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of silence, and the National Anthem.
At Monday’s Morning Meeting, we were honored to hear from veterans Bill Bryan, Mark Slade, and Chris Howe. These guest speakers took a few minutes to tell their stories of military service, and explain why serving the community is still important to them.
Why might you spend time helping other people?” asked Howe.
“Because it makes things better for them,” responded a Lower School student.
“And who are you helping when you’re making things better in your community?” asked Howe.
“Everybody!” responded a hand-waving first-grader.
“That’s right. Helping your community helps everybody–even you.”
